What is the Chiltern & Thames Rider Magazine?

The biggest regional equestrian magazine in the country
The Chiltern & Thames Rider Magazine, was first published in March 1992 and was then called the Chiltern Rider.  It was circulated in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire and in 1995, the circulation area was expanded to include Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and North London which led to the name being changed to Chiltern & Thames Rider.  We are now reaching down into parts of Essex and up into Cambridgeshire as well. Today, 8,000 copies of the paper magazine are circulated by subscription, via newstands, retail outlets and sold at shows.  An electronic version of the magazine is available upon request.
The magazine is published 12 times a year and we think we can safely say that we are the biggest regional magazine in the country.

What readership is the title aimed at?
The editorial content is aimed at mostly the competitive amateur rider, specialising in dressage, showing, showjumping and eventing.

What are the main editorial contents?
  • Show reports and results within the region
  • Seasonal product features
  • Educational features
  • Reader competitions and giveaways
  • What's on
  • International dressage rider, Anna Ross Davies has a regular column
  • Your Voice - reader letters
  • Very strong classified section
Do you have a good classified section?
A major yardstick for measuring the success of a magazine is the size of the classified advertisement section.  We have a very healthy classified advertisement section which reflects the popularity of the magazine.

What are the Chiltern & Thames Rider Championships?
We recognised the need for unaffiliated championships to offer the keen, amateur rider something that they could aspire to and the local professional something to strive for.  Because the vast majority of our readers are keen amateurs, we introduced the Chiltern & Thames Rider Championships.  We hold annual championships for showing, dressage and showjumping and readers compete at qualifying shows throughout the region with the aim of winning their tickets to our finals.  Over the years, this has given us a huge community of readers who also compete at our championships.  This has worked extremely well at promoting our brand and allowing us to offer something unique to our readers that no other equestrian magazine can do.
